At the request of a few members, A few mods and I have decided to give in to demands.

Here's what will happen in this thread.

The mod gets to pick the song of discussion.

The discussion will for each song will last about 3-4 pages, at which point a mod gets to choose another song.

However, this will come with rules...as usual.

1. Do not have one of those "OMFGZ, I egree wit u. U meke a wealy gewd point!!!!!!111oneoneonetwothree!!!!!!!" posts. Leave those positive (or even negative) comments for either rep comments or PM's.

2. It's almost like a debate forum post in EvChat. Support or oppose one's post if you'd like, but if you do, at the very least give reasons why you support or oppose somebody's view. You may post your own interpretation if you find it to be different from others. There is no particularly stupid interpretation as long as you're open-minded...or unless the poster of the interpretation happens to be stupid

3. They must be Evanescence songs....no covers. Not for this thread anyway.

We shouldn't have any problems in here, since I find a lot of the posters to have interesting things to say.

I look for some interesting discussion to occur here.

However, I do ask that if you're going to participate in the discussion to please follow through the thread. If you post about another song and we've finished discussion on that song, your post will get deleted.

Edit: To come to think about it, I like this thread idea a lot. I think this thread allows us to examine piece by piece how much we relate and what we love about Evanescence songs. Essentially, the meaning behind the songs as it has applied to us is why we are fans in the first place.

Well, I had posted about song significance, so thanks! I remember Amy saying BMTL was about waking someone up from their daily, boring routine. I agree. But, I understood it a bit differently. I see it as helping someone to realize the truth and beauty of life, aiding them in their search to live life.

Id say you're sorta being swallowed up in your own despair, or maybe you're just plain lost, and you're asking for salvation (not in reference to Tourniquet), almost from yourself- and you've actually been dead and withered on the inside for a long time. Im not tryin to be emo or dark or whatever, but thats just the main message I see.

If ya want a positive message... I think its about coming to realize you have something inside yourself that's never shown before- like something dormant.

Well amy said she got the opening lines "how can you see into my eyes like open doors, leading you down to my core where i become so numb" from when she was at a resaurant waiting for someone and was pretty glum when a waitress asked if she was ok (hence the "how can you see..."). In my opion the song is about feeling alone and lost "without a soul, my spirtl sleeping somewhere cold" and then finding someone who you care for "now that i know what im without" and begging to be with them. maybe even falling in love "frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead".

To be saved to no longer be alone and the torment to stop and to be brought back to life. To enjoy life and regret living no longer "call my name and save me from the dark", "save me from the nothing i ve become. bring me to life". And if that can not be accomplished for an end to come "bid my blood to run, before i come undone" cause life isnt worth living alone.

The bridge for me really somes it all up for me. this is how it relates to me and i interupt

This is my "interpertation", heh, You have sunken into a monoton, sad world and at one point you start feeling nothing and you aren't affected by anything. Drenched in a depression that you can't break through, so you just become numb. You are woken up inside by someone or something and you realize that you've been sleeping on the inside. So you open your eyes and see again, for the first time in a long time. I think it is a lot about wanting to recover from depression or something terrible that happened.

I relate to this song more now than when I first heard it.
For me its about living day to day, although you still feel things and love your family and friends you somehow feel numb or have forgotten what strong emotion feels like.
For what ever reason (perhaps meeting someone new or rediscovering someone already in your live) your heart opens up again to someone who seems to know things about you and can see things in you that you cant and didnt even know were there.
Through this new experience you can see how numb you were before and start to feel alive again.

Well thats my interpretation of the song.

Hmm.. Well my interpretation of the song is a little different. The first time I heard it, it seemed like it was about lying to everyone around you for so long, you've lost who you really are, and are searching and pleading for your love to help you find yourself again. This line " frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead" I thought was that every time her love held her, it felt wrong, like he was hugging a whole different person. He is the only one that she can trust, and she wants to be her true self when she is with him, but she can't find her true self anymore, and pleads for his help.


A little far fetched, and a little strange, but thats what I first believed it to be about.

Well we all know the origin of the first two lines...the Amy-in-the-restaurant story, where she realized how unhappy she was when asked if she was happy.

But I see it as meeting someone who opens you up in a different way, who seems to understand you when no one else does. Hence, "how can you see into my eyes like open doors". You spend more time with this person and s/he gets you to open up to them and you really start to like each other. You view the past as a time when you were numb and everything was monotonous. You feel alive with the person, alive and vibrant, and the person comes to realize that s/he feels the same about you. S/he has woken you up, as it were, and you don't want to go back to sleep.

And...yeah. The end.

Well to me feels like.. someone is not living, just Existing, like something u thought about life is not... and u feel out of place, u have that weird feeling about "this is not all" ... But mean while u find it ur life is empty. I dont know if i make myseflt clear
