The Evanescence Song Interpretation Thread - Part 2
I wanted to bring this back, as it was really fun when it was active. A couple of people brought up some good points, though - it might be better to start from scratch, and the last thread was purely pre-ToD.
I'll start off with a song, and give time for anyone to write up their interpretations. When it starts to die down (assuming this thread picks up at all), a new song will be chosen. Perhaps I'll make it twist in the direction of the Writer's Group, and choose one participant to pick the next one. :) I would like to ask that this thread be ONLY for interpretations, though - don't make simple posts just to tell someone you like what they wrote. If you do like something and want them to know it, send a rep or a PM. So, the first song... considering it's the newest/last single, how about Good Enough

beauty song, i think amy allways though that she was insignificant because in the past (maybe) some people made her believe that but know she knows she´s amaizing because she can see that in someone else eyes

I think it has quite a few messages:
1. Being in love with someone and being willing to do anything for them. 2. After hard times and stumbles, finally feeling like you're good enough in general and good enough to have what you have. 3. A very SLIGHT undertone of being a little bit anxious about whether or not you'll be able to succeed in holding on tight enough for this good feeling to go on. |

Good enough interpretation
I believe that this song encompasses the final acceptance that one is allowed to be happy. It's like the person singing it is realizing that they're okay, that they're good enough to be loved. "Am I Good Enough for you to love me too?" is like saying can this be real? In the past, it never worked out, but now it's almost too good to be true so just tell me is this for real?? It's like you've always been in need of real love and never got it, and now the light has shone through..or at least, you are hoping that is so. "I'm still waiting for the rain to fall, pouring life down on me..." is sortof awaiting what's to come. Ur hoping for that which is good, and you can hardly believe this new great person in ur life that's making you so happy. The fear of losing it is still there, though. Especially with the line "So take care of what you ask of me, cuz I can't say no." That's like binding yourself to this person and depending on his / her to make you happy, or to give you a sense of self-worth.

I think Good Enough is all about the fact....
Amy was always so deep in her sorrows, that she never saw past that. Now being able to get to the point that is has had enough, and has now put her own foot down, she believes, and has regained the strength to say no, and that now she can be at a place in her life, that she can put some things behind her and move on! She has gained back all the power and control in her life, so that people can't hurt her the way they did before! She is now Happy, and knows that she is GOOD ENOUGH!!! This is my short version of what Good Enough means!!

In many interviews, Amy Lee has said that the album TOD was a lot more of her and how she felt.
"Good Enough" is the last track on the album. I think that maybe all the songs that are before "Good Enough" are all the bad things that shes gone through and now shes finally moving on and she feels good enough. |

hm where do i start.
i have a love hate relationship with good enough. i love some of the lyrics and some of the vocals in the song. but really to me it is very medicore. everthing in the song is very blatant and there is really nothing in the way of further meaning to be gained from listening to the lyrics. it is all about coming to a level of acceptance and strength within your self. to realise hey this and me and you know what im in a good place and ive overcome adversities. it is a sorrowful sounding song of success (who knew such a thing existed)

I think "Good Enough" is about Amy being in love with someone again but also being "Under the thumb". I also agree with what was said before, about Amy not feeling that she is good enough for her love interest.
I also think that it signifies that she feels she is being defeated. She's still waiting for something to happen to her and make her happy again by the lyrics "I'm still waiting for the rain to fall, pour real life down on me". |
