Long story short, he was in a juvenile detention facility and about a week from his release, one of the guards started kicking him around. So Charles kicked back at the guard and got charged with assault and battery against a detention officer. (This was before I knew him.) Instead of being released from juvie, he got sent to county jail and then on to prison.

By the time I met him, he was out of prison and on probation. But his probation was revoked because he couldn't pay his fines. Then a day or two before he went back in, he got in a fight with his stepdad and threw a hairbrush at him. His stepdad lied on the police report and said it was a hatchet, and therefore landed Charles another charge--assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

I was telling SilverWing about this one night and he put it better than anyone else I've heard--something to the effect of "Yeah, we've got terrorists and rapists and murderers, but we gotta make sure all those deadly hairbrush offenders are locked up."

Whew, that's probably more than you wanted to know, lol.
