This is for the people who read many of the posts here and wonder what the hell we're saying because of all the weird words and phrases. N00bs and veterans alike should find this helpful.

Use this, and soon you will be handling the lingo with gusto!




-z0r - suffix added to a noun to make it cooler, or show a lack of seriousness.

-age - suffix added to a verb that makes it a noun (i.e. heartage)

\m/ - symbol for the metal hand. Generally used to show how much something rocks

<-- - used to point to one's screen name

AIM-speak - misuse, misspelling, and screwing up of grammar of the english language (i.e. omfg ev iz lyk da gr8st bnd lyk evr!); often used by n00bs and used by veterans when making fun of something or joking around. Severely frowned upon on the EvBoard, with few exceptions.

atm - Internet abbreviation for 'at the moment'

bane - alternate form of the word 'ban.' Used when jokingly threatening to ban someone from the board. (also seen as: banez0r) (i.e. OMFG Amy double-posts she should be banez0red!!!!!!!! )

biznatch (also: biotch) - variation of the word 'bitch', used when joking around with someone

btw - Internet abbreviation for 'by the way'

dr0k - change the 0 to an o and switch it with the r. Result = dork. There ya go!

Effervescence - 1. word that people used to accidentally call Evanescence. Generally used on the EvBoard when joking around. 2. Bubbly (like a fizzy drink).

EGGMERCOP - acronym for emo-goth-metal-rock-classical-pop. Created by a few EvBoarders, it smashes together all the genres of music that Ev has in their music. It is now the true, official genre that Evanescence belongs to.

Evan's Essence - see definition 1 for 'Effervescence.'

Ev - abbreviation for 'Evanescence' (since Evanescence is a longass word lol)

fangasm - combination of the words 'fan' and 'orgasm'. An extremely excited reaction by an Ev fan to news concerning the band that is highly anticipated and met with joy, excitement, and hyperness.

FFS - abbreviation for 'for fuck's sake'

fo' shizzle - gansta/rap phrase that is used for emphasis or agreement

FTW - Internet abbreviation meaning 'for the win'. Used to say that something is awesome. (i.e. Coldstone Creamery FTW) Occasionally, FTL, meaning 'for the lose' is used to mean that something sucks. FTFW (For the Fucking Win) may also be used.

FYI - Internet abbreviation for 'For Your Information'. Sometimes used as a noun (i.e. Here's an FYI...)

heart (alternate: :heart: ) - 1. to love in a friendly way. Also expressed as <3 2. Old EvBoard code that used to generate a heart.

HTH - Internet abbreviation for 'Hope That Helps'

huggle - a form of 'hug'. Used when feeling particularly warm and fuzzy inside

IAW/IDAW - Internet abbreviation for I Agree With/I Don't Agree With.

IMO - Internet abbreviation for 'In My Opinion'

l33t sp34k - variation of AIM-speak in which certain letters are replaced by numbers (i.e. 1 = L, 3 = E, 4 = A, 5 = S, 7 = T, 0 = O) Also highly frowned upon on the EvBoard, and sometimes used in lighthearted comments.

lol - Internet abbreviation for Laugh Out Loud. Used when expressing humor or amusement

LMAO - Internet abbreviation for "Laughing My Ass Off". Used to express extreme amusement. Also paired with ROTFL (see below) to make the long acronym 'ROTFLMAO' (also can be LMFAO, for Laughing My Fucking Ass Off)

lyk whoa - AIM-speak expression used in jest to emphasize something (i.e. That picture rocks lyk WHOA!). 'Lyk' is a misspelling of the word 'like'.

MUAR - 1. A sound made by drunk people in IRC. 2. Typo of 'more'. 3. Battle cry/roar. only to be used by the stouthearted. See, Braveheart. Usage: "You can take our lives, but you can never take our MUAAAAAAAAR!"

n00b - pronounced "noob" or "newbie". 1. A new member of the board. 2. A relatively new member who posts stupid questions/topics.

OMG or OMFG - Internet abbreviation for "Oh My God!"

postwhore - 1. (verb) to post frivolous and unimportant messages that have little to do with the topic at hand. 2. (noun) A person who does the latter excessively

pr0n - change the 0 to an o and switch it with the r. You get the idea.

pwn - variation of the word "own". Generally used in describing how awesome/better something is. (i.e. Evanescence pwns!)
Variations include: pwnz (pwns), pwn3d, pwned, pwnz0r

rawk - misspelling of the word 'rock'. Means the same as 'rock'

rock - (verb) ...Do I really need to go into it?

ROTFL - Internet abbreviation for Rolling On The Floor Laughing. Used to express extreme amusement. Also paired with 'LMAO' (see above) to create the long acronym 'ROTFLMAO'

r0x0r - variation of the word 'rocks'. Implies a greater sense of the word.

Sleen - evanescent mystical powah. Often found missing.

Smrat (alternate: smr4t) - misspelling of the word "smart" to indicate (usually in jest) how intelligent someone is. Often seen with the word super (alt. s00p3r)

sux0r - to be of very poor quality (i.e. that SUCKS or that SUX0RS)

stfu - acronym for 'shut the fuck up'

Teh - often used with important people's names (i.e. Teh Ames, Teh Other Ames, Teh John, Teh Ev, etc.) to denote extreme coolness; a misspelling of the word 'the'

TOD - Acronym for "The Open Door," Evanescence's new album (Release date: Oct. 3, 2006)

uber- - used as a prefix to many words. When attached, brings the emphasis of the word up a few levels. (i.e. Cool vs. ubercool. You cannot get any cooler than 'ubercool')

wtf - acronym for 'what the fuck?!'; often used in indignation or shock

w0rd - gansta/rap-type of word, meaning agreement

:heart: - to love in a friendly way (also expressed as <3, sometimes with a repeating 3 to show a grand scale of :heart:age ); also, an old EvBoard code used to generate a heart.

:shock: - old Evboard code that used to generate a -type of smiley

O.o (alt. O.O) - shocked, "OMFG" type of expression. Think of the two O's as big, wide eyes.

XD - 1. the devil smiley. Look at it sideways, and the X looks like evil eyes and the D, a grin. Used when being particularly evil, sarcastic, or blunt. 2. According to Teh JasMod, it can also be used to denote a laughing-so-hard-you-wet-yourself face. And because Teh JasMod pwns, this definition is being added for your pleasure

\m/ (-_-) \m/ (sometimes seen with (^_^) in the middle) - metal hand, face, metal hand. Used to show how absolutely ubercool something is.
