A blue mood...
LOVE ON TRIAL
Exhausting And caustic This searing heat Sterilizing Cauterizing Veins that bleed From needles Target missed But not before damaged caused And a man On the cold stone floor reeling from his loss If he had been more patient, If she had been more true Nothing would have come of this But now there's nothing they can do Her lifeless body hung limp in his arms And he held her tight as though to shield her from harm They'd come for her body, and he wouldn't let go Until they convinced him that Heaven, and not her body Held her soul. |

Fall out of your daze
And into my arms I promise I'll catch you and then let you go Butterfly (kisses?) Just land on me I promise I won't try to clip your wings Mother and other and sister be Teacher and friend and lover true Liberty Belle, oh make me free; Then free me from all that I owe to you.

It feels
Like rain There's nothing through the window But storm clouds rolling Darkly 'cross the virgin evening sky I know Not sane I ask myself who needs it I have no hope of controlling The ending to this ever-running night I pray for dawn But you are gone and maybe there won't ever be light Maybe it'll always be night Without you what are these things but illusion anyway? I whisper so soft I can barely hear "It's time we said goodnight, my dear" and march along into new life without you I can't believe you're gone

You want me out
You want me in And I'm being tugged around again Because I'm lost (But at what cost?) I just won't be anybody's whore And I'm just not your love anymore Truth be told I never was But there's so much I've given up My eyes are closed And I lie still As death moves in for its final kill Light above and light below From whence I came, There will I go And the world below Will never know Just how it felt to be Me In the face of you being you I hope your freedom suits you dear Because it's murdering me

This was penned by a homeless mother of four who is participating in our "Liberating the Working Poor" program in Anthro/Soc class. It really touched me, and it reminded me how miniscule my own problems were.
If God is so great, And God is so good then why don't my children have any food? Why don't they have a roof over their heads? I can't tuck them into nonexistent beds And I can't feed them nonexistent meals When did I agree to this deal? So if God is so great I must be so bad that I don't deserve What everybody else has. So much for Jesus.

When I was small
The world was small too Too small to satisfy my searching hands Which reached for everything colorful and Found emptiness, a broken glass An illusion made of coldest steel It was ages until I finally awoke With gratitude that the illusion wasn't real. The morning sun shines on my face The grass is green and wet with dew The wind blows in my longish hair and you have me and I have you. Brightness beyond all cleansing light Is what your love has brought to me I see God's hand in the structure of a tree Or a tadpole growing adult like me. I look back on my youth and know That all those years of sleet and snow Were worth it if I was to be guaranteed Of the sunshine it is now my privilege to see. If you read this please comment.

Benevolent Creator
One mind, two hands Each formed a person One woman, one man Simultaneously Assured their perfection Lock and key Fitting together You and me Benevolent Father Up on high Made me outgoing and you shy Made you patient and made me kind And gave you talents that drive me out of my mind My wonderful husband I could ask for no more Than what our God has in store For our love, our future and our life And I am so grateful that I can be your wife The privilege is all mine
