The Man Behind the Beast

Chapter One

The night sky glistened as the air filled itself with the commotion of everyday life. Everyone was up and about in the small village preparing themselves for the day ahead. All except for one man, who was found uncomfortably lying on the cold hard ground. He was alone in this world, yet he couldn't help but let out a cry for compassion.

"Please...someone...anyone..." No one answered. It wasn't that he couldn't be heard, but the fact that no one chose to hear him.

"How dare he trouble us with the problems of a man such as himself?" He was pathetic, his clothes tattered, drenched in his own sweat, beat down by the men who taunted him so, yet he somehow managed to keep on. Struggling, he got to his knees and crawled away beneath the shadow of a tree, surely it wouldn't deny it's shelter to him. He lay back on its trunk, relaxing his body from the pain it was forced to endure. It was true, he was a beast, but there was so much more that the others did not see. There was still love in his heart, love the only thing worth living for, the only emotion worth feeling. Such a cruel fate for a mere man. His eyes opened revealing the warmth still in them, but he was looking for something, someone to be more precise.

After some time, his eyes finally rested upon a woman. The same woman which he had grown accustomed to seeing every night for the past three years. Every time opportunity arose, he would muster all his strength and walk a little closer, just to see her. She was the embodiment of an angel. Deep brown eyes, long golden-brown hair that seemed to be made of the finest silk, her gown curving around her body. She was so beautiful, yet there were nights when he would hear her cries. He did not know what caused them, but how he longed to let her know that she was not in fact alone in this world, how he could make her pain go away. It all seemed so real to him. Yet on this very night, there was a vague smile on her face, a rare but gorgeous site. He couldn't help but smile to himself, and with that he closed his eyes and fell into the realm of sleep.

Well... I'd like to read them!!! But it's up to you to keep us curious about it.

Btw, you have a very good way of describing things. I could imagine it all while I read it.

Thank you, but I will strive to be better.

It's true, it's up to the writer to leave the reader begging for more, and I think this will do it....

Chapter Two

The sun rose above the landscape, casting a long shadow on the village. It was early morning, but the villagers could be seen going about their daily routines. Children running about, while others were scolded by their mothers. Quite the ordinary day, yet there seemed to be a sense of great curiousity about.

The whispers of the villagers carried by the wind, "Is it true? When is it?" Everyone seemed so involved in the new piece of gossip, yet one couldn't help but notice the man sleeping by the old oak tree. There he lay, quite motionless his pale hands providing a sort of pillow to comfort his head. It was quite obvious that he was not accepted by anyone or anything, but at the same time he wasn't important enough to drive away. His eyeslids slowly open, revealing a pair of the most handsome dark brown eyes, which no one has ever taken the time to appreciate.

He slowly tried to get up, but he quickly succumbed to the sores all over his body, making it an impossible feat to even move. He was forced to lay motionless on the ground as the world around him seem to pass him by. His entire body ached and the bruises on his arms and back did nothing to improve his condition. What was so remarkable about this man, what makes him one of the most remarkable sites to behold, is the fact that no matter in whatever condition he may be found, he refused to show any resentment. No matter how horribly he was treated, how brutally abused, he would never harm anyone. Today was no different. He lay on the ground, the sun warming his body, bringing hope back, hope that maybe today was the day that she would finally notice him...After what seemed like hours, he was able to sit. He couldn't help but notice that something was up and about. Determined to know the new whereabouts of the village, he rose to his feet. His ankles shaking under his weight, he limped across the uncomfortable ground to a vantage point in which he had taken quite a liking to, he could hear the near-by villagers' conversations, yet he remained hidden in the darkness.

"She's getting married?" came one man's voice full of astonishment.

"Yes, he asked for her hand in marriage yesterday evening." Came the woman's voice in a matter of factly tone. He was puzzled yet so anxious to learn more; he couldn't wait to see the happy couple. Suddenly, as if there had been a type of spectacle happening, the villagers rushed to one of the near-by houses.

"Surely it must be the bride or the groom, I must congratulate them!" He thought to himself. Limping across the mob of people, he amazingly managed to get to the front of the crowd. His eyes fell upon her, the woman who he had sought after all these years. She stood gorgeous as ever, but he caught a glimpse of something he had never seen before, a small silver engagement ring on her delicate finger. At that very moment in time, a tear slowly trickled its way down his cheek...

Not fair...

This reminds me of "The Beauty and the Beast", one of my fav stories, btw.

The chapters are too short!!! I'm greedy, I know. I don't care.

Chapter Three

His heart pounded painfully against his chest. His lungs filled with the bitter cold of the night's air. "It can't be, no it has to be some sort of nightmare." He thought to himself. He struggled to get away, but he was surrounded, there was no way out. He hadn't meant to do it, didn't they understand? It had been an accident, all a terrible accident. He had lost control of himself, he never meant to kill him, never. They should know by now, but it was clear by the cold glares on their faces that they showed no compassion. "You animal! Beast! How could you?!" They shouted at him. But what hurt the most was not the words that were aimed at him, but the tears of his beloved that broke his heart.

She lay across the chest of what used to be her husband. Her face smeared with the tears that longed to bring him back. She gently stroked his cheek, as if her doing so would make bring life into him once more, but it was all for not. The body of her husband lay cold on the Earth, white as snow, but not nearly as beautiful.

He couldn't stand to watch any further, and suddenly he broke into tears, "Why?! I didn't mean to, please understand." He cried though muffled through his tears. He was pathetic in their eyes, a murderer crying out for mercy, when he himself showed none. A truly pitiful site.

"You're pathetic!" They would scream as he was repeatedly stricken throughout his body. Anything they could manage to lay their hands on was used to provide some sort of torture. Rocks, fists, anything and everything seemed to rain down on him. They wouldn't stop beating him and his screams were ghastly. He would beg for mercy, try to reach out for someone, anyone that would help him, but nothing but pain embraced him. It seemed the pain would never leave his body. And suddenly, he seized to feel anything, except for the darkness that consumed every last bit of his being.

He lay crippled on the ground unconcious from the beating he had endured for the past hours. His body was not even moved out of the way because no one seemed to care about him, and sadly no one loved him anymore...

Poems by Snwwhtkng

No More

No need to run
No place to hide
No more pain

There is no more me
There is only you

No more fear-
It was only in my mind
No more darkness-
Only light

There is no more me
There is only you

Tears

Your tears-
They mean nothing
Hollow in all their splendor
They play a melody-
A melody only I could love

They play a game for me
A game a of hide and seek
"Come out wherever you are"
I find them...

They fear me
I bring about their falling
One after the other-
They fall

Child, won't you cry for me?

Love

The deadly poison crawled about
Leaving its trace upon my very soul.
Blinded by happiness-
I never saw the truth
I no longer was my own...
I was only yours

Falling victim to your every wish
I dare not complain
How could I?
As long as you were mine

I drank your pain-
made you whole
I took upon my being
To give you all

I was yours from the start-
And will be 'till the end
But now I know one thing...

Love is a lie.

Lies

Every lie I believed
Every false emotion I treasured
How I wish they were true

Every last one I dare not deny
I knew truth would never come
So why put up a fight?

How I wish I could relive the lie
I wish you were still mine...

The Poison

I scream out
Trying to fight the cold, the dark
I need warmth
I need you

Can't you see me?
I'm right there-
Beside you

You can see me-
But you choose not to
You leave me abandoned, forgotten
Your poison coursing through my veins-
Killing me

I hold my breath
Hoping one day you might heal me
Relieve me of your poison-
The poison which is you.
