I remember hearing the Teaser for CMWYS, it was from a local radio station somewhere in London, and I uploaded it to my iPod. And for a month I played it over and over trying to anticipate what the single would sound like.
After the album debuted and I bought it, I took a listen straight through the album, non stop. I loved it. The band and Amy seemed to haven take a huge step forward in writing skills, musicianship and vocals. It was a very mature sophmore album. I look forward to hearing new stuff in the future. The music from the band is always so metophoric in a sense that fans can relate in so many ways. rock it.

I think what u can say about TOD is that it's just...different... I mean like after spending a long long time listening to Fallen and then u start listening to TOD it sorta catches you off guard a bit don't u think? Personally i was doubting whether the album would be as good as Fallen but after a few listens, all I can say is that no album is better than the other.. TOD is something DIFFERENT from Fallen, but BOTH are great albums.. Gotta admit i was pretty confused when i first listened to TOD..was kinda expecting another kind of sound i guess..but i was somewhat drawn to Lose Control..dunno why..hahah..

its always good to keep you suprised with music and after listening to fallen forever and getting ToD i was suprised but pleased at the sound some of the songs are really catchy and then some you gotta get used to some songs like WotW and SWQ were quick to get stuck in your head then some like GE and LY took time but still were amazing the whole album is good altho it is missing ben's lyrics but terry is an ok muscian/song writer

There are a few albums in the past year or two that I've been slightly disappointed and grown into, unfortunately TOD wasn't one of them. I really felt that the chemistry that Ev initially had wasn't there. Not like Fallen and Origin. This is of course to be expected with the lineup changes. I remember reading something where Amy Lee said Moody was more 'pop' minded (not candy-stripe pop, appealing to an audience pop) or something to that effect, and I really feel that added an element of addictiveness where I could have a song from Fallen stuck in my head for days.
However, I do have to mention All That I'm Living For as one song that stuck out a bit from the rest. Not quite sure why.

esh, im still making up my mind on this album
sweet sacrifice is an awesome song call me when your sober, i cant make up my mind its sorta like a typical evanescence song that maybe should have been a pop song weight of the world is, well i love the verse but i think the choros is just realy cheesy, i cant stand your star lacrymosa is awesome, its so epic, its a very poweul song the only one is again like weight of the world, the choros is awesome but i hate the verse all that im living for is epic, its hard, its awesome, and good enough is just amazing but i cant listen to it its a brilliant album with a few flaws for me, still way better than fallen

I know what you mean. I was quite disappointed when I first got TOD, but I thought it would grow on me...but it hasn't. A few songs have, of course, but the album just didn't mesh for me. The old Ev magic was gone. I can't even listen to the album all the way through now, and that upsets me because I used to completely adore Ev, but I can't make myself like this album.

I remember when I first heard Call me when you're Sober, I was like Wow thats really........
ANNOYING! Mostly because it was just TOO MUCH EVERYTHING.... (i.e. layering, effects, build-up) But, I figured the whole album can't be like this, so on october 3rd I rushed out and bought TOD. I listened to the whole thing in the car on the way home. I remember my first thought after hearing the entire thing, was; What just happened? None of the songs were memorable in the least. It literally sounded like one long song. And I've come to understand why. Its because like I mentioned above: THE ENTIRE ALBUM IS EXTREMELY OVER-LAYERED, OVER-MIXED, OVER-"PERFECTED", JUST PLAIN OVER-DONE. Its soooo far from that raw emotional explosion that evanescence was to me when I first heard Bring Me To Life in march 03. In closing my completely uncalled for (and probably offensive to some) OPINION.... I just have one question to "THE BAND", "Where has my heart gone?"

I think it's rather funny that you call TOD "over-layered" when Fallen has a much fuller sound than TOD has. Many more "layers" of sound. TOD is much sparser in comparison.
I still like TOD, mind. But you've got it in reverse if you think Fallen doesn't have as many "layers" as TOD. Listen to Everybody's Fool or Haunted and then listen to Sweet Sacrifice or WOTW and then tell me which song has a fuller, richer, "more layered" sound.

When I say "LAYERED", I don't mean "FULL" and "RICH" as you say. I'm talking about 25 Amys singing harmonies in almost every song. Lets try to guess how many there are within the first 30 seconds of "Lose Control", or the first 30 of "The Only One", or the chorus of "Call Me When You're Sober".
Wait heres a good one..... How many Amys did it take to "PERFECT" the line, "Fear is only in our minds, but its taking over all the tiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIeeeeeeeIIIIIIIIIi eeeme."? I'm not talking about "Takes" How many Tracks make up that vocal line alone, forget the instruments! Shall I go on? I'd like to add one more thing. As for Fallen, yes I know there are vocal layers on most of the album, but there aren't near as many as TOD, and they aren't as noticeable. It sounds like on Fallen they had the "Back up Amys" at a decently low volume for back up. Whereas on TOD all the "Amys" are at full volume.

I actually get what you mean. I can't imagine how long it must have taken to record all the backing tracks for TOD. It sounds to me like there are a ton.
Also...not to nitpick, but it was actually Amy's sisters singing backup in CMWYS. Although I'm sure Amy did some backup tracks too. |
