I liked very much both of your poems, especially the writer's block. It's nice when you used the descriptions like splash! and a noise!, and they kind of woke me up.

I loved both Writer's Block and Hummingbird! I really loved how descriptive they were, loved the use of language as well. Amazing work Violette, please share more with us!

I totally luv your style...very different and creative. The language you used in 'Hummingbird' was awesome. It was also cool how you wrote it from the hummingbird's point of view, rather than just describing from your own point of view.

Thanks so much, Shyde and Oceanic. And GirlWithAMic, too, for coming back to my thread. I will definitely post some more stuff here later this week.

I'm also working on a short story right now. It's still in its editing stages, but I'm going to submit it next semester for my college's literary magazine. Obviously I won't post it here - it would be way too long. But I'll let you guys know more about that as it comes along, if you're interested.

Thanks, Katedral. I will keep you guys updated on my short story, but I probably won't post it until it's published in the magazine. Still got some corrections to make.

Ok, another poem for you guys. Been busy with work and life offline the past few days, but I promised I'd be back. I wrote this a couple months ago... there's a little story behind it, too. Let me know what you think!

Confronting the Enemy

I will approach you cautiously
I've never danced with death before
I will stare you directly in the eye
Make you feel my presence even more
I will analyze your every move
Always second-guessing, never taking chances
I will follow every step you take
Especially the ones coming closer to me
I will ball my tiny hands into fists
Pretending I'm stronger than I really am
I will keep you in my line of sight
For if I turn my back, you might just attack
I will clench my teeth and exhale deeply
I'm not afraid, I'm still alive
I will summon my every ounce of courage
Unaware of what I'm fully capable of doing
I will search my soul for that inspiration
Because deep in my heart, I know I can
And I will
I will defeat you

Writer’s Block

She swims
In an ink-black sea
Her arms flailing
Groping for her surroundings
Her heavy body
Sinks deeper
And deeper
As if she’s falling
Into an endless abyss of misery

She screams
But no one answers
She tries to think
But too much is happening
All at once
She’s lost
Misguided
Helpless
wow, Sara (if I got your name right), you're a very talented writer. I loved Confronting the Enemy and Writer's Block. I really liked the way you described the feelings one has when suffering through writer's block, it really does feel like you're drowning in a way. As for comfronting the enemy, I liked how you wrote it all in future tense, not just the last lines "I will defeat you." it looks nice and refreshing, cause you're used to seeing everything before those lines written in present tense. Anyway, great work on those, I hope to see more soon. Merry late christmas, and a happy new year. best wishes for 06!

Wow...amazing, just like your other works. Great emotions in it; I was totally feeling that nervousness and anxiety and determination that comes when you're confronting someone. I'll say it again, you have a wonderful style and way of expressing yourself. Oh, and I'd luv to know the story behind it if you're willing to share...

@ Uril Coleridge: Thanks for your comments! Glad you liked Writer's Block and Confronting the Enemy, which is actually a personal poem for me. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, too!

@GirlWithAMic: Thanks for coming back again. As I mentioned above, Confronting the Enemy is a little personal. I had a brief health scare late last summer. A doctor found some cysts on my thyroid, and they did a couple tests to make sure it wasn't cancer (since two of my relatives on Mom's side of the family had thyroid cancer). I wrote the poem while I waited for the results (which were good, so no worries). But before then I was nervous about what was going on, but I decided early on that if the worst came true I couldn't be afraid.

So that's my story.
