I saw it last week.

I was disturbed. It was a very good movie, but god... The cutting parts turned my stomach.

I was so sheltered when I was that age.

It's just unreal...

this movie seems totally unreal to me. perhaps because i was so naive at that age. i am STILL naive about things. lol
a lot of the parts were so unbeliveable. but apparently in today's society THAT is what kids are doing. and that's exactly what they are -> kids!

now the new thing with elementary school kids are these bracelets and each colour represents things they have done with boys. like kissing, hugging and even oral sex. gawd i was sickened when i heard about that...

I think the movie is meant to show the worst in teenagers, almost like a sattire. I doubt many teens are as bad as those girls in the movie, but stuff in the movie does in fact happen. Sometimes you don't even realize you're going down the wrong path until it's too late. This is supposed to cause people to think twice when choosing friends, before hanging with the wrong crowd. But I don't think it did a good job. The author's idea is to show that hanging with the wrong crowd can get your screwed over. But, Evie (sp?) and the "wrong crowd" gets away with everything in the end, and that kinda kills the whole purpose of the movie. I really did enjoy watching the movie though, I just don't think its message was sent across to the audience very well, as it sorta contradicts itself.

I'm proud to say I've never done any drugs or had casual sex. And screw you if you don't think I'm cool.

Oral sex in elementary school?? You kidding me???

I saw it more like "Be yourself, you don't have to change to be with the IN crowd. People will like you for who you are" She did get away with it, but will that make her happier? Probably not.

ok that at that age is just so wrogn and disgusts me... i have those bracelets lol but i dont know what color means what and it is definately not indictive of things i have done. im such an innocent little girl compared to others.

and what syd said about the cutting- that made me turn away too..usually i cant stomach a lot of thigns but anytime i see or think about people cutting liek right now i cower into a little ball and hold onto my wrists.... that is something i could never do...::shudders::

True, Evie probably will end up screwed over as well, however, the movie implies that she got away and is quite happy about it.

And your view is correct too. I think both themes are present in the movie. Although the one that speaks more to me is how hanging with the wrong crowd can really screw you over.

Wow, I'm amazed. I saw this movie with my friend Emily and we both hated it. It seemed like a total waste of two hours. *Shrug* It seemed like someone sat down and said, 'okay, what's the worst thing these teens could possibly do? okay, put it on the list and we'll stick it in right after the orgy.'

Blah.

I thought Thirteen was a great movie. Nearly everything I have experienced either with friends or just people I know I saw in that movie. It's insane how bad people get when they're only teenagers, especially barely teens.

I remember when I was like 12 or 13, girls would get soda can tops.. the things you break off, and a certain number meant different things. Like one was a hug, two a kiss, three tongue.. and it just kept going. Seems like people are just getting more idiotic, and I'm only 16 ... I hate being in the middle of it all.

I thought it was middle school kids...

Anyway, I used to wear those all the time, okay, I still do. Not in the manner that some kids use them as now, but...yeah. They look cool.
