Pretty self-explainatory thread. But what books do you love?
Not in order: 1-His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman Because it's probably one of the most well-written books I've ever read, and I think the story is fantastic. I love Lyra as a character, there's a perfectly crafted ending, and I love how controversial it can be. 2-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (And probably I'll be able to add HBP) by JK Rowling Because I think her writing technique just blossomed in this book, and the ANGST! I feed off it. 3-Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire I have an obsession with everything Wicked/Elphie. I love this book. I love how it is so completely thought-provoking, and brings up religion and politics in an unexpected way. And I think the almost erotic parts were just absolutely beautiful. Plus, it makes me cry more than any other book. Even when it's not during a sad part. 4-Midnighters by Scott Westerfeld I just adore this book. So intriguing and well-written. The plot is such a hooker, I read these books religiously. 5-Peeps by Scott Westerfeld A fabulous vampire novel, that's not just about pale faced bloodsucking morons. It's scientific, well thoughtout, and.... well, quite disqusting, I might add. 6-Witch Baby by Francesca Lia Block I love all the Weetzie Bat books, but this is my favoirte. Witch Baby always makes me think, and I love it. Besides, my dad was reading it when I was born, lol. 7-Coraline by Neil Gaiman I love how twisted it is. I love how it's almost like Alice in Wonderland, but it's darker. 8-Valiant by Holly Black I love how FINALLY Prince Charming isn't so charming. 9-Tithe by Holly Black Holly Black writes faeries in a way that makes them real, and it's just fun to read this book because it's her first. I adore her urban fantasy. 10-Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien It's long, it's hard to read, it's confusing, but the story beyond makes up for that. I've grown to love the characters, and embrace the writing, no matter how tedious it was for me the first time. And I did read it before the movie came out, by the way.

1. If I Should Die Before I Wake - Han Nolan
2. Born Blue - Han Nolan 3. City of Beasts - Isabelle Allende (sp) 4. Jude - I have no clue who wrote this book But it's FANTASTIC! 5. Shadows on the Sea- No Clue- Takes place on the island that I live on, so it's automatically cool! 5. A Crack in the Line- No Clue- It's really interesting, talks a lot about laws of physics. 6. Speak- I should know, but i don't. A must for any girl to read. A trully amazing book. 7. She Said Yes - Misty Bernall, Cassie Bernall's life story. A great book. 8. No Pretty Pictures- Anita Lobel 9. The Upstairs Room- Johanna Reiss (You can tell how I hate to read about the holocust- can't you?) 10. Go Ask Alice- One of the biggest mysteries out there. This is a book, that you can't grow up without reading. It's how much, taking a soda can change your life. Honarable Mention: 1. Cut - Patricia McCormick

1. Anne Frank's Diary
That is my number one favourite book. I can't explain to anyone really how much this means to me. It changed my life, changed my outlook on many, many things... my perspectives changed, everything... there wasn't a part of me left uneffected by this. Anne, to me, is just... oh, inspirational but that's not a strong enough word for what she means to me, for what her diary means to me... I must have read it at least 25 times now, I'm re-reading it again now... the diary is heartbreaking, moving, uplifting, inspirational, the beginnings shine through of a girl who just wanted to be a writer, to live through her time... only to die age 15. That's the hardest thing about this book, is that you know, everyone knows, that she died in a concentration camp. She went through all of that, only to die alone... that broke my heart before I even read the first page. "I want to go on living, even after my death"... oh, if only she could see what a writer she has become!! If there's one thing on earth I could change in history this very minute, it would be that Anne had lived. 2. His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman This book has it all! It's superbly well written, it's gripping, Lyra is an awesome character. The whole other-worlds theory comes to life in a very vivid way. I laughed, I cried, I went through every emotion reading this book! And it's NORTHERN LIGHTS not the Golden Compass ![]() 3. Back Home- Michelle Magorian It's about a girl who was evactuated to America during WW2 who comes back to the UK lost and feeling alone, and about her struggle for acceptance in the UK and learning to live with her family and coping with all the problems of returning home, but at the same time, not knowing where is home... the UK with her family, or the US with her "family"? 4. Cuckoo in the Nest - Michelle Magorian I loved to read the struggle of the main character against his fathers prejudice to become an actor in the theatre. It was brilliantly written and I just loved it. 5. Anything written by Maureen Lee. Pick any of her books and I've read it and loved it. They're mostly all set in Liverpool during WW2 and afterwards, most of the main characters are Scousers. They're amazing. I just love them!!!!! Plus Maureen Lee is really great, I've written to her twice and recieved two replies ![]() 6. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J.K.R. Hmm, this is the best of the series so far. We understand the characters more and new ones are introduced, we find out more about the past and actually this one is just great, love it. 7. Lord of the Rings - JRRT. AMAZING. I read them about a month before the first film came out because I prefer to read the book than see the film. And the books rock! Tolkien went into so much detail it's unbelievable. The Fellowship of the Ring is the best book (and the best film) because it has the most plotline ![]() 8. Witch Child / Sorceress - Celia Rees. These two books are great, they're very well written, the story is convincing, it made me think a lot more about Native American culture and the colonial era (actually it inspired me to take a course in it in my 2nd year of uni so it better be good lol)! 9. Blackberry Wine - Joanne Harris By the same person who wrote Chocolat. It's set in the same village actually, so some of the same characters pop up. It's an interesting story and it really made me care so much about the characters in it, and wonder whether the main character had lost his mind seeing a ghost everywhere that wasn't really a ghost. 10. Notes on a Small Island - Bill Bryson. OMG if you haven't read this, I insist you read this RIGHT NOW!!!!! It's the best book on travelling Britain I have ever read, I've laughed until I can't breathe reading this book, in public even. I've never seen my country so accurately described before, he's picked up everything, he's even mentioned Marmite and seaside rock, and everything he writes is done so with the best humour and the jokes are fantastic. Wow, I just love it!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() amy

Speak and Define Normal are my favorite books. I absolutely love Define Normal, it reminds me so much of me and my ex-best friend. I'm like the 'rebel' girl who plays piano, has a nice house and family, but hates it...

I'd also have to add Go Ask Alice Anonymous, Brave New World, The Scarlet Letter, and The DaVinci Code. There was also another really good book that was about a man who was kidnapped and used as a sex slave. It was really interesting, but I can't remember the title or author. It had a bible reference for a title, I think?

In no order whatsoever:
1) Speak - I actually Laurie Hals Anderson. She rocks, as does his story. I'm a guy, and I think ANYONE should read it. It's not neccessarily directed to just girls. 2) His Dark Materials - Pure genius. 3) Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix - One of my favorites. 4) The Da Vinci Code - Wonderful. 5) Angels & Demons - I love it. 6) Armageddon Summer - It has a controversal topic to it. Well, kind of. 7) Catalyst - Not bad. 8) Artemis Fowl - I'm a sucker for them. ![]() 9) 10) Actually, I may need to edit this list. ![]()
