The birth control shot (Depo Provera) is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT less likely to cause weight gain than the birth control pill. The birth control shot is ALL synthetic progesterone, the hormone responsible for PMS. So you get all kinds of crazy PMS symptoms (including extreme hunger and weight gain), as well as the fun added benefit of bone density loss. I did the birth control shot for about a year, and in that year, I gained 50 pounds. That was also the year I got hypothyroidism, which I know caused SOME of the weight gain, but not all of it. Depo also makes your hair fall out and your sex drive disappear (it's what they give to sex offenders to "chemically castrate" them).

This was important enough to emphasize with minimod red IMO, so call it an abuse of power or whatever.

I know this probably won't help a whole lot, but this has been my experience.

I had to have a total of four credits in two PE classes at my college. For the first two I took horseback riding. I'm now taking volleyball for my last two. Now, I'm not an active or physical person, so I wasn't too thrilled at having to have four PE credits. But I absolutely love playing volleyball (not that I'm any good) and I've begun to notice that I am gaining muscle where I could feel none before. This increase in muscle is mainly happening in my upper arms and my legs. I'm still not in great shape, but I'm getting there!

Another thing is that I just received an Indian sari that I ordered in the mail and it's gorgeous! The problem: the way I wear it, there's fat hanging off the sides slightly. It's not very attractive. So, I began (meaning this morning) walking/jogging around the track at my school. I go in the early morning around 7am so there aren't any people there and it's cooler. Today I walked/jogged a whole mile without stopping in about 15 minutes! I know this doesn't really mean anything to anyone else, but I was very proud of myself for doing it!

So basically, you can try a PE course (if you get to pick what you want to do), or buy something that will give you more incentive to start exercising more. That's how I'm doing it, and I've noticed that I'm paying more attention to what I eat. I'm not at all a health food nutcase, but I haven't been eating as many candies or drinking as many sodas (one 12oz. bottel a day for lunch) as I used to.

Your body and metabolism may be totally different from mine, but this is what is currently working for me, and I hope to lose enough weight within the year to wear my sari to school without being so self-conscious!

And good luck to any and everyone trying to lose weight as well! I know how hard it is (trust me, I do), but keep going! It really is worth it!

My bellydancing helps a lot to lose a little and to tone up. I'm from the south, so dieting is pretty much out of the question lol. When I am in good shape its from being active. Cheerleading, football, jazz, balet and bellydancing are all things I've done/do to stay in shape.

But now I'm on meds that make it hard for me to lose, which sucks so its like on one hand be a little chubby or on the other be very crazy.
