Toning is something that you can only do when you've lost significant amount of weight already. You can't tone something if you're overweight, you only tone parts of your body when you've lost weight and wish to create definition, like muscles, in certain areas. In order to tone a part of your body, it depends on what area you wish to tone in order to know what to do. You have to do usually specifically targeted excercises in that specific area... and normally they're strength exercises as opposed to cardio. It becomes less about burning calories in this case and more about stengthening and tightening muscles. The only way you'll ever lose more weight is to find the time to add in different exercise than what you're used to doing. For instance, I wouldn't recommend running/walking, because you're on your feet all day. You could do cardio like boxing or weight lifting or resistance training. The trick really is to find time for it all. I know I'm having a difficult time because I started college up again and I'm way overloaded with classes, so I have very little time for myself. However, starting next week... I'm just going to make an effort to get up early in the morning before I go to school to work out. Because I go to school and/or I work afterward or the whole day... so it's like... by the time I get home, I'm completely exhausted, plus I probably have homework on top of that. So I'm just going to force myself to do it in the morning to get it in. The only way to find time is to become determined and motivated enough to work it either in between your schedule (for example, I've decided to start parking my car in an inconvenient lot, forcing myself to walk to all of my classes, all over campus)... or you need to force yourself to get to it before or after work. It's all about how determined you are. That's what it takes. There are cases where some people really don't have time, but I've found it's a lot of excuses. What tends to happen is that people don't put themselves first. Like, in Wildangel's case... I'll willing to think she cares a lot more about her daughter and doesn't really think about her own needs that often. People often get weighed down in their responsibilities. But trust me, once you get into a routine... even if you are exhausted... you'll just be able to do it because you're used to doing it. If you set aside that time, every day, or whatever it is... then you'll adjust and just know "Ugh, I've gotta work out now"... you may hate it, but you'll get used to it and it'll be easier because once you work it out with your life, then it's cake. Hopefully I'll make it another 20-25 lbs. and get where I want to be.

Good luck everyone!
I'm sure you can do it!Seeing as there seems to be such a wealth of experience here I thought I'd ask you all for suggestions. I used to race sailing dinghies regularly (at least twice a week) and work out in the gym and swim in my spare time when I wasn't sailing. However, I have badly injured my arm due to the heavy loads and stress caused by sailing. I am finding it hard to work out and maintain my fitness as I can't do weights and stuff like that at the moment. I need to improve my upper-body strength and work on my fitness so that when my arm recovers I can get back into sailing. I don't know how to do this without hurting my arm. Does anyone have any ideas?? Oh yeh, and swimming is out because that exacerbates the problem.
