It remidns me a lot of this Halloween scary story I wrote in 6th grade. These kids get trapped in a haunted house and stuff...blah blah blah...the end.

That is! Who stole my 6th grade file?

I thought of that too... in fact, Poe turned that into a song on her Haunted album (great album by the way!)

Actually...a little history on House of Leaves and the album Haunted (as opposed to Poe's song, Haunted):

Mark Danielewski and Poe are siblings. The book and the album were created to coexist (if you read the book while listening to the album, it gives you a totally different experience than reading/listening to them separately). Both were dealing with the repercussions of their father's death and used their respective art forms as a way to heal.

What I thought was great about this story(and is also great about some of the songs on the CD) is that it doesn't really end... the song might end, but the story doesn't. It leaves you wondering, and leaves you with that sense of despair that this person will never be free from the pain. Another key example: Hello(#9)

The story was beautifully composed. It also fits in well with the song. I always had the feeling that there was something like this about that song.

If it was expanded upon, it'd make a really wicked short story.
