you're entitled to your opinion on everything else, but it's not entirely true that people come here because they love evanescence.

I completely understand that, but perhaps the problem is that in the FAQ, or intro to this forum it needs to be made clear for those that are posting their work to state whether or not they're posting for the hell of it, or if they really want to be critiqued. I think that's the issue... some people honestly may not want to be critiqued at all, and are just posting their stuff to show it to others and it's not that big of a deal.

There needs to be some kind of way for us to tell so that there's not this issue over "WTF? I just posted my freaking thoughts of the day, I don't need you telling me what you think is right or wrong about it!" or "WTF? Why isn't anyone giving me any useful advice?? It might be good for my ego, but that sure as hell isn't what I came here for!" Y'know? There's obviously a problem in the distinguishing of the two.

End.

I think it's pretty much safe to say, that when you post something..whether it be art, writing or even in a journal, there are always going to be some people who critique you and some who are going to pat you on the back. It just comes with the territory. Pretty much, if you post something, you're opening yourself up for judgement.

While evanescence is probably the main reason people came to evboard in the first place, it's not always the reason they stay. I know of a bunch of people who no longer really like the band, but because they are part of this "family" and like coming here because of the friendships they've formed, they still post, just not in the Ev Forums.

Oh come on, who ever reads the FAQ or intro topics? I read those one day when I was bored, a year after they were made.

If you post here and you're opening yourself up to get all those, "that's GREAT!" posts then you should be opened to getting actual critiques on them. I've seen people here who post and don't want flamers. And they usually say "No flamers please." Because they know there is the possibility that they will get one or that they don't want big critiques on something they're just posting for the hell of.

I think the yourstuff section needs some way of differentiating between visual art, music, stories, or poems. There are many threads now and it would be handy to split yourstuff into sections so each user could have an independent thread for their music, stories, visual art or whatever.

There are three ways I can think of -

Icons on each thread.

Split yourstuff into sub categories.

Use a prefix for each thread such as: Art - spiderfalls paintings,
Writing - Codgers poems, Music - Alarandias songs, craig - stuff..indeed

Those are all rather good ideas I thought it was rather funny how Craig gets his own subcategory hehehe.

However, that last one about subcategory prefixes can be difficult...let me just use the example of my own thread and Michelle's thread, though there are definitely more threads out there like ours. Both of us love to do some type of artwork...but we both love to sing and record our own covers of songs we love. So, it would be difficult to place us in ONE subcategory.

I am resurrecting this thread again because apparently no one has read it as of late.

Call me a hypocrite or whatever, I used to do the same crap, but seriously guys, there is this great thing called constructive criticism. It's super frustrating that nearly EVERY thread consists of a person posting their 'work' and then ten other people saying "wow thats so great!" "i really like that!" "woah so cool." "ur preety good!"
It's awesome that so many people post and create stuff in this forum, but nearly everything in looks exactly the same. Look at the first page, how many 'poems' consist of at least one evanescence line, or the words bleed, cry, pain, death, or nightmare? Way too many. Also, check out what a poem is.
A poem is a composition written in metrical feet forming rhythmical lines. For those of you who don't quite understand, check this out...

Metrical feet: In verse, a foot is the basic unit of meter used to describe rhythm. A foot consists of a certain number of syllables forming part of a line of verse. A foot is described by the character and number of syllables it contains: in English, feet are named for the combination of accented and unaccented syllables; in other languages such as Latin and Greek, the duration of the syllable (long or short) is measured.

Rhythm: The pattern of sound in a line, usually based on stressed and unstressed syllables.

Now, for the part I think too many people are struggling with...be original. Don't just write poems about how much you hurt. Pain can be beautiful yes, but not every poem needs to be about it. Not every poem needs to be about love or happiness. In my opinion, a good poet, writer, whatever doesn't have to write about one certain emotion, but can write about anything. They can write about the color in the sky, or even a variety of emotions that are not pain or love.

Also, if you are posting photography, you probably shouldn't be in the picture. I mean, it's not really your work if someone else is taking the picture, is it? Unless you are talented like Wade & Peaches, then yeah okay. Scenester-Mirror pictures do NOT count. If you are a model, then it's still not your photography, it's your 'modeling' thread.

I am not calling anyone untalented in here, not at all. The very fact that you are here and posting shows something, but search for new creative ways to express yourself. Drawing, painting, pens and pencils, writing, poems, lyrics, and creating music do not define creativity. (Just because a band member uses this a their creative outlet does not mean you should, and I notice a lot of times that people in here tend to use a VERY similar painting/writing/clothing style that amy uses.) It's a type of creativity, so how about finding a new non cliche way to express yourself?
