Have you tried right-clicking on the desktop, "settings"-->"advanced"---> "Trouble shoot"--> and then make sure the acceleration is set so that Direct X is enabled.

I actually had the same problem, but didn't realize that I had turned off my Direct X at an earlier time. But I figured out that's what it was and now it works fine.

Has anyone else been going as crazy as I have over the Sims Body Shop program? I've been creating sims like crazy! Creating new sims was never something I could really figure out how to do with the previous version of the sims. but body shop makes it so easy I've just been personalizing my sims and making new clothes and all sorts of stuff. I've made a Lain sim, a Hyde sim, a Takeshi Kaneshiro sim, a Utada Hikaru-modeled sim, some ppl with crazy colored hair, a demon-looking dragon lady, a FFX-2 Gunner Yuna sim..omg I've just made a ton of sims lately. If anyone else has been making sims I'd love to be able to visit your sims page and check out your uploads! mine is at the sims main page (www.thesims2.com) and my name on there is SimsHydeist. A couple of ppl have already downloaded some of my sims so if you want to check them out just look me up!

The sims 2 is a monster to run, I have to get a RAM upgrade, and I had to get a Geforce 4 chipset...... The game is good, but a bitch to run.

Our computer is very new and should have no problems running the Sims2 but even we had some difficulty with it locking up. My husband went to the troubleshooting area of the Sims2 website or maybe EA games website and followed some ideas there and it worked.

How he explained it to me (not computerly gifted)....once I get the computer on I have to Ctrl-Alt-delete and then I have to close out all the programs except explorer.exe and taskmanager.exe that is listed under our names on the list. Then it runs fine without any problems and is faster as well. Btw...we have Windows XP.

Not sure if that helps anyone or is just more confusing but it is what we had to do here!

I think you are refering to background programs... yeah it does help the game run quicker, you have to have over 256 RAM also, so your comp doesen't scream for more memory.

There is quite a bit of good information from fellow Sims 2 players (at the sims 2 webpage on the bbs boards) on how to fix certain bugs and problems
