Jane, wtf? She's saying that she's MARRIED to Jesus the Christ!

If that isn't nutty, I don't know wtf is! And I oughta know what nutty is. After all, I am the Evboard resident 'nutter' more or less.

I just don't have humor for people's beliefs being disrespected and laughed about. Like I already explained in my previous post, it's a common conception among very devoted Christians to believe themselves entirely devoted to God. I think it's very disrespectful to go about name-calling just because they have some strong beliefs that may strike you as strange.

I recommend you work on changing your perception as being the resident nutter. It's not something I'd be proud of if I were you.

1.) Devotion doesn't equal marriage in the individual sense. While the church is considered the 'bride of Christ', this does not mean that an individual person is literally married to JC. For one to claim so is just crazy. How can that not be crazy?

2.) why not? (in ref. to me being what I am.)

3.) *sigh* poor you - the resident buzzkill

It's just flat out your mistake, as well as the person's that posted, to just ASSUME the woman was speaking literally. That is an assumption on YOUR part, not an actual fact of the statement. And I also explained that IN SOME CASES, devotion DOES equate to "marriage" depending on the sect and level of commitment of the particular individual.

True. I'll give you that. I was just saying what I was saying for the sake of argument.

In my opinion, this 'level of commitment' does equate to brainwashing if the individual believes themselves married to God.

I find it hard to believe that level of commitment to one's faith doesn't come with a fair amount of choice.

while i can see your point sabercat i have to agree with Jane. i have finally decided to post instead of just reading your arguement go back and forth.
you can be commited to something without being brainwashed to something. you have to decide and use free choice to allow a certain level of devotion and commitment to something. you have to decide to believe in something. that is free choice.
then again when being commited to a religion only enables you to see situations from one side without considering the options. when you only make choices becuase that is what your religion dictates you do then that is brainwashing.
i think people want to believe those with a strong religous conviction are brain washed as the people who pass those judgements don't have that level of conviction or belief in anything. they want to believe those with faith are brainwashed as they don't have anything themselves.

It's when they can no longer speak or act for themselves. I do believe you can be controlled by cult leaders and other people like that, but only if they know your weak points and how to tap into them. It's also when they have to consult their leader before doing anything. God is a spirit, not a human. Not anymore. Those people claiming to be God in cults are lying or just delusional.

Sister Spooky has disabled reputation
I converted from Judaism to Catholicism. IT was a choice I made one day with enough facts to back up the choice. I went to classes for a year and got baptized and now I go to church every sunday. I believe in God and Jesus and the holy spirit but I am no where near brainwashed. A few people, friends of mine actually, thought that I was going to BE brainwashed by taking these classes, if it was up to one of my friends I wouldn't be catholic and I wouldn't be very happy.

During the course of those classes I met a couple who goes to church EVERY DAY. Yes they go to Mass everyday because there is a mass held at lunch time downtown at the church. Would anyone consider those people brainwashed? I mean once a week is enough for me, but there are people who go every day, is that brainwashing? Or is it being devout?

I never once felt, in those classes, that I was being brainwashed. Actually I was told that I could leave several times if I didn't believe what was being taught. I did believe what I was being taught so I stayed in the classes. Sometimes people just choose different religions for different reasons. Some people convert to Judaism (I don't know why because I was that religion for 20 odd years and I just don't get it, but to each his own) no one pulled me into these classes, I actually had to go to the church and ask about converting, no one made me go.

Now I don't believe that I am "Married to Jesus" but I feel a strong connection. There are some people who believe that, it doesn't make them nutty...although a few hobos on the street of my city would make it seem otherwise.

A doubt: are you a latin girl ?
And about the thread, my mom is an addicted to the religion, she is still believing that i can adopt the same religion, she can give up her willing to see me beside her with that.
I'm a lustful girl, i love the flesh but also i hate the rules, so she thinks that i can redeem myself with the religion, but i don't believe in a paradise.
