Which is better? Fire Fox or IE? And a few other nerd questions.

Alright I have a question that's been asked thousands of times but I really need to know this. Next month I will be getting a new computer all to myself. Yes mine mine mine! *coughs* Sorry just needed to get that ego-trip out of the way. But here's what I want to know. Which internet is better? I'm fighting with myself right now over the though of either having Fire Fox or IE. I've heard great things about Fire Fox from my friends. Since I am a user of Gaiaonline and am on that site almost everyday I feel that I should download Fire Fox since that website has told it's user that it will run better with that internet connetion.
Also it seems as though a lot of websites are moving servers that work for Fire Fox or improve it. And our school has updated the internet to Fire Fox, and got rid of IE. So I'm sort of leaning towards the fox. But the thing is I am used to IE. So my thing is which should I go for for the best internet connetion?

My other question is this. Since I am using my families computer right now I want to have the best of what I can get. This means updating the IE from 6 to 7. See if it were up to me I would have updated my internet long ago, but since this computer mainly belongs to my parents I need their "Ok" first which sucks. So should I have them update the IE from 6 to 7 even though I'll be getting a new computer next month? And what is the difference between 6 and 7?

So those are my questions. Cheers!

I've always used IE, had IE at school, and have IE at work. IMO, I love IE and have no reason to switch to Firefox. I don't understand why people think it's better, because IE has worked perfect for me over the years. So I'll need enlightening too on why it would be worth it to switch, because IE gets the job done and gets it done nicely.

IE has gotten some bad wrap because they used to have major security issues. I do think with the release of their latest version though they've really improved. I can't say for sure because I don't technically use it.

As far as style and interface go, I've always preferred Firefox over Internet Explorer. It has just always run more smoothly for me than IE.

Of course there are also other browsers out there. At the moment the main one I use is Maxthon, which I very much prefer over even Firefox, even if it does happen to be IE-based. But in my opinion it's so much better than either of those browsers. I have Firefox as a backup, though.

I prefer IE myself. I just find it a lot easier to navigate or whatever as firefox looks a little different doesn't it...I've never had a problem with it, so I'd say go with that one.

That reminds me... those are more reasons that I like IE much better:

I hate that stupid little fox-globe icon, just let me have the simply freaking "e" okay? Firefox comes with that new little style crap and it looks so different and bubbly... kind of like the new windows-style computers. I purposely changed all of my style-settings on my computer back to the old windows boxes because I can't stand this new style. I don't WANT my start menu to be green and 3D and my toolbars to be a bright popping blue. I want boxes. Simple freaking boxes. And Firefox plain confuses me, I'm just used to IE's layout more and I enjoy its simplicity and design.

On top of all that I've never had problems security or otherwise with IE, so me likey.

/rant

The only thing I can tell that Firefox is way secure than IE, because a lot of trojans has written to run in IE environment and use it`s vulnerabilities. Firefox was built on the Gecko engine (Mozilla) and has native support of XMLHTTPRequest (which used by AJAX technology) and many other JavaScript and DOM (Document Object Model) features. It`s more stable and way faster than IE, and it`s displaying many HTML elements more correctly. Unfortunally, Firefox CANNOT display colored scrollbars and glowing text. Personally I`m using Firefox without any additional antivirus/antitrojan software and haven`t any problems =)

I don't know about the others, but we have firefox at work, and
it works awesome.
I have never had any problems at all, so its nice to be able to work,
and not have to have any worries, especially when I have to edit differ
things.
At home, I think I am using IE, and it sucks shit, just to be very blunt. XD
But I plan to be buying a different program when I get back from Atlanta.
