So it's kind of like peril and malevolence? I know it's a bit late for that one, but I got curious (and maybe more than just a bit.)

I don't think they ever talked about the story behind this song.

As you know, Amy and Ben wrote it back in the Sound Asleep\Whisper days.

So I'm assuming it's about a bitter and love relationship and the fear of being alone, possibly.

"Catch me as I fall, say you're here and it's all over now." - love
"Speaking to the atmosphere, no one's here and I fall into myself" - bitter
"This truth, drive me, into madness," -alone or bitter part
"I know I can stop the pain if I will it all away." - love

Or maybe I'm wierd.

hummm I'm thinking you're right... personally I don't see it that way, for me it's about fear of yourself, of the darkness, of your demons and of being alone

Yeah, i think it's about being caged in by your own demons, of not being able to break out. As everyone knows, your own mind can be the hardest thing to overcome, more so when faced with wave after wave of negativity, it becomes really hard to try and fight it off. The spoken words kind of convey the image of someone desperately trying not to crumble.

I heard this song today on youtube, and it has instantly become a favourite of mine. one of my favourite bits is the bit at the end of the verse

I have been listening to this song alot, on their ABH cd.
I think its about...
Stopping the pain, and find that certin way to.
Its a beautiful song, and its very deep, touching, heartfull,
and really hits way deep down, and it has so much feeling, and emotion
to it as well.
I think it is one of their best.

This is a very powerful song indeed. I used it as a base in one of the fan fictions that I wrote. In the fic, this song is repeated over and over, it was like an anthem for what the characters were going through. I love this song so much I think it's one of my favorites. I don't have an EXACT favorite but it's in my top ten and will always be on any Evanescence Mix CD I ever make.
