Whisper/Sound Asleep EP, track 2
Origin, track 2 Fallen, track 11 Anywhere But Home, track 13 written by: A. Lee and B. Moody Originally recorded on the Whisper EP in 1998. There are currently 5 versions of the song:
“Servatis a periculum, servatis a maleficum”-Rough translation means “Save us from danger, save us from evil.” According to many sources the line is grammatically incorrect, but Amy Lee maintains that she’s a hell of a Thai chef. -- Whisper Catch me as I fall Say you're here and it's all over now Speaking to the atmosphere No one's here and I fall into myself This truth drive me Into madness I know I can stop the pain If I will it all away [CHORUS:] Don't turn away (Don't give in to the pain) Don't try to hide (Though they're screaming your name) Don't close your eyes (God knows what lies behind them) Don't turn out the light (Never sleep never die) I'm frightened by what I see But somehow I know That there's much more to come Immobilized by my fear And soon to be Blinded by tears I can stop the pain If I will it all away [Chorus] Fallen angels at my feet Whispered voices at my ear Death before my eyes Lying next to me I fear She beckons me Shall I give in Upon my end shall I begin Forsaking all I've fallen for I rise to meet my end [Chorus] *********************************** Whisper - Demo version 2002 This version begins with strings and one burst of noise before the vocals in the intro sample. There's a Latin Choir in the end of the song.
I think they sing: Servatis a periculum Servatis a maleficum which means: Save us from evil Save us from dark |

servatis ad maleficum that´s the grammaticaly correct version and the translation: save us from danger save us from evil periculum = danger maleficum = evil |

You can hear a live version of Whisper on Everybody's Fool single, too. It was recorded live in E-Werk Cologne, Germany, October 17, 2003. The interesting moment is that ABH's live version is different from EF single's track. Ben played a very beautiful guitar solo in Cologne.

From what I have, there are four versions in all.
The Whsiper EP - Begins with a reversed clip of the guitar intro before a woman comes in and says "Death in it's, death in it's most hideous form" and the normal guitars kick in. Origin - This begins in the same way as the Fallen version does and sounds pretty similar, however it does not have the choir chanting in Latin at the end. 2002 Demo - This is the one with the choir at the begining taken from the Romeo + Juliette movie with Leo Dicaprio and Claire Danes. Fallen - As anyone will know, this one has the Latin chanting at the end. As for the correct transelation, I haven't a clue. All I know is the 'danger' is 'periculum' and 'evil' is 'maleficum'. There are many translations for 'save' and 'ratis' means 'saved' and I couldn't find anything for 'us' so I give up. |
