I honestly can't say. At least some of it is in English... I think. I'm not sure what to make of the chipmunk noise either. And I agree with you about TLT...its not WT at all. Glad it wasn't on the album. The Frozen demo is a real treat though ^^

Considering that most people who list WT in any genre considers them Gothic/Symphonic, then yes. I'm pretty sure WT is gothic. Maybe not as hardcore as back in the Enter time, but lyric wise, it falls in the genre.

Seeing as the band themselves consider their music Gothic...then they are. You else knows better?? Besides, as PlayXDead said, everyone calls them gothic. Sure, they were more doom during the Enter era, but they are now more of a blend a blend of gothic, symphonic and metal elements.

I loved the interview, though I couldn't read the first page of it. And Sharon needs to stop being so ridiculously gorgeous, because it's kind of unfair.

I typed up the first page of the article as best as I could... there may be some errors as some words were very, very hard to make out. But I think I got the gist of it!





"The walls of Within Temptation's management office in Berlin are lined with gold and platinum discs. In Germany, as in much of Europe, they've been hugely successful ever since their "Ice Queen" single. Until now it's been something of a mystery as to why their bombastic brand of symphonic rock hasn't been as successful in the UK. Then the band walk into the office and it all becomes clear. They are so endearingly laid-back it's a wonder they ever got out of bed in their hometown of Utrecht, Holland, let alone conquered half of Europe.

With one member, the appropriately named guitarist Ruud, investigating the possibility of an alternative career in (porn?? haha) with Rock Sound's photographer, it seems for a moment like the genial six-piece are on a mission to uphold all our stereotypes about the Dutch. As we amble through the backstreets of a leafy part of the city to the location of the photoshoot, keyboard player Martijn stopping occassionally to ballroom dance with drummer Stephen, that impression increases. It starts to seem like it's a miracle that it's only taken them 10 years to make a serious impact outside the Benelux countries and Germany. However, although Ruud, Stephen, Martijn and bassist Jeroen can afford to take it easy, it's clear that the heart of the band, vocalist Sharon and her long-term partner Robert do take things a little more seriously.

Sharon has a stylist who darts forward between shots to flick back any microscopic strands of hair that might have meandered across her face and Robert could, in comparison with the rest of the band, almost be described as intense. That's only intense by Dutch standards, though. For the first six years of the band both Robert and Sharon had proper career trajectory jobs and they did WT as a "hobby". Then gradually one country after another started to fall for them. However, when we jokingly ask Robert and Sharon if world domination is at last on the agenda, they think for a second before deciding that "domination" sounds a little severe.

"It's not about domination," smiles Robert. "It's more about giving."

When we rejoin Robert and Sharon later they're only slightly less laid-back. It's a couple of hours before this evening's show at the city's Columbiahalle venue and we're sitting in their dressing room backstage as the rest of the band surf the net on laptops next door. Rock Sound decides it's probably best not to check out what they're looking at, but Sharon never seems at all phased at being the sole woman in such a laddish band.

"I was always asked in America, 'What's it like being in a band with all these guys?'," she says. "You have to explain every time that you're just one of them. Everybody's very surprised about that."

After the photoshoot Rock Sound would also be somewhat surprised. But it does make you wonder whether WT's slower rise in the UK and the USA can be explained by a similar conclusion about the concept of female rock vocalists. The (recent?) Stateside Lacuna Coil tour, which WT supported, for example, was named The Hottest Chicks in Metal Tour.

"I don't think any of the singers in the bands thought, "Oh, I'm a hot chick in metal," says Robert dryly. "I don't know if they identified with that."
