Saddest song on the entire THOE album, makes me shiver everytime I hear it. Don't know what it's about, though, from the way it's written and sung, I'd imagine it's written about something that actually happened...know what I mean?

Its biographical. I saw an interview where Sharon was talking about performing and she was saying how hard it is to sing a song about something that has happened to you on anniversaries of the event and stuff, and she specifically mentioned Forgiven. I always draw a parallel between Forgiven and Our Farewell.

But do we know what Forgiven is about?

I don't know which is sadder, though...Our Farewell is about saying goodbye, yet Forgiven? Someone was forgiven for leaving, or dying...
Forgiven was written after Our Farewell, so the saying goodbye came first, then the forgiveness...confusing, be better if we knew what the two songs were about

I think they could be about the same thing. They feel like that, at least to me. They're both about loss and its acceptance, in a way. I doubt the band will tell us any time soon what they're about. The only biographical song they've revealed that I can remember right now is Mother Earth, about the death of Sharon's cat. (insert aside about Forgiven being about the cat here)
