Writing Music

I am 14 and I was inspired by Amy to start writing songs. I have been playing the piano all my life and I'm really enjoying writing music and lyrics. I hope one day I can be just like you Amy. I have just started singing lessons and I really love it. I want to ask Amy how doyou go about writing music to your lyrics. Do you write the melody line first and then the Accomplament? Do you just play around and find something random or do you follow the cadinces for a key? Let me know.

this is something i'd really like to know as well, mainly out of curiosity though. My friend writes songs and he writes the melody first and then the lyrics, his songs are awesome so i was wondering how Amy does it as well. i write lyrics but my melodies suck.

I gotta agree.
I love everything about Amy, her music, her style. She is my inspiration to write music as well. But when I write, it's my own ideas, for myself. Just because she inspired me doesn't mean I have to copy her. If I end up just like her (that's actually what I DON'T want, but at least I'm being myself I guess), so be it. I'm trying to aim to find differences between my style and hers. If & when I get famous, I don't want to be defined as "The next Amy Lee" or "The next Evanescence." I want to be defined as...something new and different.
So anyways...not everyone learns or writes the same way. Just because Amy possibly (not saying she did, but just an example) figured it out lyric by lyric, top to bottom, doesn't mean you'll do it the same way, you may have an easier time figuring out the chorus first and then the versus and then the bridge. Figure out for yourself what is easiest for you.
Good luck!

Yeah... I write lyrics people say are good and for a melody I first just say it until there is somewhat of a beat and then I just... sing it, I don't know! My melodies suck! And for whatever reason I can't write anything good when my keyboard is set to piano, but if I set it to strings I can play for a long time and it will sound really good even though I'm self taught and then... I'll have no idea what I did all that time!!! Oh, got to go... Broken just came on VH1!!

Wow. You go girl.

As for your question I completely agree with MLE_Sol I am, however, going to give you a tip. For me{I usually write songs when I'm supposed to be taking notes in Bio} I take a pen I really like{you would be amazed at the wonders it does} and write whatever comes to mind. Then I go back later and put it into song form adding and taking out things as they come to me. But that's how I write. Why don't you just write as you will. When you get the inspiration write it down somewhere and worry about the rest later. Anyway, that's my advice and my friends have dubbed me the next Amy Lee minus my song style....which is good but sad so I just thought I'd offer my advice. Remember, write what you feel. Not what you think other people{like the members of your band[if you have one]} might like. When the song means something to you it makes it so much easier to sing, in my experience anyway. Okay. I'll let you go. Best of luck.
Em

I love writing. I am not that talented enough to like write a song, but jsut the fact that I can get my emotions on paper help me deal with alot of issues. I think its really a form of therpy. I also love writing short stroies!!

I write songs too, but honestly, I don't think I'll ever be good enough to make a CD or anything... kinda discouraging if ya think about it...
Anyways, one way to add the music is to atart with the music first, THEN add your lyrics, that way one of the more difficult task is over.
Hope that helped!
