I'm sure the story will be alot less outlandish and convoluted, but look up The Phoenix Saga and The Dark Phoenix Saga http://www.rambles.net/xdark_phoenix.html(there were hints to these events all throughout X-2) as for myself, I'm not holding much hope for this movie either, I've heard ALOT of the story elements and they completely rub me the wrong way. Even if Ratner is a decent director, they shoulda held off until Singer was done with Superman and then let him make the movie HIS way without the Fox execs watching him like a hawk.

I can't believe they got a different director. That's just murder. Now, I'm not all that excited to see this. There go my expectations. If its not broken don't fix it. Brian Singer has more than proven he can make a comic book superhero movie work on screen, why change the director? Comic books movies are SO easy to screw up and many of them have. Brian Singer managed to ground the story in some realism and emotions and avoid really extreme cheesy elements (i.e. Wolverine in yellow spandex I just couldn't imagine working on screen). Same actors, sure... but they got the same actors for The Ring 2 and look at that piece of.. Batman just got deeper and deeper into crap with each passing movie until Batman Begins changed things with a great director. X-Men was one of few comic book movies I enjoyed and thought was produced well. But with a change of directors, I'm just very upset. They might as well change directors for the next Batman film AFTER its amazing success.

Thankful;y Batman is still No.1 at the box office this week.

In the article I linked earlier, theres quite a rant about one of the suits at Fox who has basically had it in for the franchise and was apparently partially responsible for giving Warner the opportunity to essentially steal Brian Singer away to do Superman.

actually Jubilee is in the second movie. She's not a major character, but she's there at the museum scene, she's one of the children who get captured at the mansion and eventually rescued by Nightcrawler, also she has a bit more screen time in the extended version of the DVD (there's a scene in the museum where her fireworks go off. matter of fact, here's a pic from X2 of her
Also she does appear briefly in the first movie in the classroom scene. Here she iis in X-men 1 (girl in the middle.)

Wow, I think that pisses me off even more.

You want to know why you lost Singer to Warner Bros. and SUPERMAN in the first place? Because you took over a year to negotiate his deal to direct X-MEN 3.
Ahh... What an idiot and asshole. Leave it to a suit to ruin a franchise, well actually franchises. Well I guess if this movie bombs, we can't blame it all on the director.
