1) Evanescence
2) Origin
3) Fallen
4) The Open Door

Although I do have songs I love on each album, think that'd be my choices overall.

xyourstar is on a distinguished road
1. Fallen/Origin. Fallen has too much value to me. It was the first album I really loved and the first time I connected with a band. Plus, it has freaking Imaginary on it so it pretty much gets the #1 spot based on that alone.

2. The Open Door. Love love how experimental it is.

3. Evanescence. This album is amazing and Evanescence has grown, it's just not experimental or incredibly original like the rest. Not that it's not AMAZING, I just think it could have been more layered like the others, and the lyrics focus too much on just relationships for my liking.

Lithium_Star has a spectacular aura aboutLithium_Star has a spectacular aura about
1. The Open Door - Different from anything Evanescence has ever created. This is my favorite album of all time, and it is the one that gave me the interest and passion I have for music.

2. EV3 - Awesome energy, lots of new sounds, and an overall stronger and much more tight-knit sound. This is my favorite lineup that the band has ever had for an album, and I hope the next album they make together is a bit more experimental.

3. Fallen - Good to listen to with friends or when I need something a bit more poppy sounding. This album is a classic and I love it, but it just doesn't have the creative energy and sound that the later albums have.

4. Origin - There are a few gems on this "album" that I love with all of my heart, but its hard for me to get over the lack of production and polish.

For me the third and fourth places change, sometimes it's Fallen first and sometimes it's Origin.
But i agree with you on Origin, it's got some great songs that i love, but the low-quality production turns me off very often.
I bet that, with the new line up, Amy's current vocals and a good production, Origin would sound really great.

For me, comparing one Ev album to another is like comparing apples to oranges to peaches, etc. They are all great in my opinion. Having said this, however, I voted for the current one because I like the song Lost In Paradise so much.

I wish the EP that had Before the Dawn was on the list, but then I don't know how I'd vote at all because it would be too much of a tie for me.

*shrugs* I have been listening to it today and frankly, maybe it's just me, but I don't find the audio quality THAT bad. And I don't think this album needs more production, if anything it's Fallen that's over-produced. Moreover, Origin has better sound and production quality than The White Stripes, whose music I like none the less (and who, by the way, keep it low-production purposefully).

Musicallywise it'd be: 1) TOD 2) EV3 3) Origin 4) Fallen.

But that is not the same as saying which album is my favourite: I love them all. It just depends on the mood I"m to decide which I like the best. I'm gonna give my opinion of every album in the order I first listened to.
Be warned for a long post!

Fallen: got me into Ev in the first place and I must've listened to it a zillion times. And it still sounds fresh! Lyricwise I can relate to it a lot, and it helped me through some rough times. But it is particularly Amy who makes this album timeless. Her voice is full of innocence and effortless yet also strong and passionate. But the guitars and drums are... boring and bland. Musically this album is just plain boring, almost every song has the same structure. But I must admit it's catchy.

Origin: The album I can relate to the most. The band might not consider this to be an album, but imo it's one of the most sincere and beautiful things they've ever done. (along with other Pre-Fallen stuff) Amy's voice is again so innocent but also very fragile. Even In Death, Anywhere, Lies and Eternal are some of my alltime fave Evsongs. And sometimes I think the Fallen versions of the Originsongs are too polished. (Especially MI, Dgee, how many times can you redo a song? )

TOD: Lyricwise, I can not really relate to it, at least not as much as I was used to with Evsongs, and it did take a long time to grow on me. But I think it's a masterpiece. Every detail in every song is thought about, and the music has gotten more complex. It sounds very polished and neatly produced. And Amy's voice is used at its best. She shows her full register, sings sweet and ethereal, and aggressive. Contra's:
It is quite obvious this is more of an Amy album. The central theme in almost every song is the 'end of relation'.

EV3: Very decent, I like the band-vibe, it's nice for a change, although there should've been more input of the guys. Especially Troy, we are in serious need of guitar solos! Still there is more place for the guys, and I love Will's drumming. But I have the feeling they 'rushed', not only in the production process (some bad mixing: loud seemed to be higher valued than quality) but also lyric-wise: there are a lot of words that keep returning; broken, oceans, heart. One more minus: This album needed more ‘quiet moments’. Amy’s voice is at its strongest now, but goddd, they could’ve done sooooo much more with it than just the all time belting.

To sum up: I voted for Origin as my favourite album, cause it's a jewel I cherish. And I want to have it more votes. Amy (nor Ben) seem to care about Origin, but it makes me feel young again (cause yeah, I'm an old hag ofc) and innocent again. And DAAAAMN, I'm freaking jealous of Amy and Ben to write such music at such a young age. But then again, next week I might've changed my mind.

Hehe, my rant's over!

You know, for The White stripes, the low production worked just perfectly, i think some bands just go very well with lower production, especially grunge and garage rock bands, i can't imagine TWS with more production, it wouldn't suite Jack's voice either. I listen to a bunch of bands (especially grunge, garage and punk), who keep it simple and it totally works. Actually their music would be ruined with more production. For example Lunachicks, Tribe 8, L7, 7 year bitch, Bikini Kill used to keep a rather low production and i love them that way.

Halestorm is a good example of a band that sounds great live, but i think their albums sound overproduced. I think it's one band that sounds better raw than professional. I can barely listen to their studio stuff, i always go for the live performances. Besides, imo, Lzzy's voice sounds way better live, without production, just raw and energetic. In the studio it sounds too clean and "tidy".

But i don't think it's Ev's case. Ev's got these delicate sounds, especially Origin, that i need to hear in the best quality possible to really appreciate them.
It's not that Origin's production is horrible, it's actually very decent, but i think that a lot of songs could be improved with a little bit more production, nothing over the top, just a bit more polish, just to make it sound more professional and clear.
